Supporting Students with Dyslexia

Sound Association

I work with all students to learn phonological awareness. Building skills and knowledge before moving to new information boosts confidence in all readers.

Fluency and Vocabulary Development

I teach students the structure of language. Improving fluency, interaction, and understanding the history of the English language will help in a student’s comprehension of a text. Additionally, we delve into vocabulary. Through learning root words, prefixes, and suffixes, students develop a stronger grasp of the words they encounter while reading.

Orton-Gillingham

The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia. I am currently training towards my Associate Level with the Academy (www.ortonacademy.org/)
